The Dwarf Did It...

The Hazel Wood

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

I received this book in my February 2018 OwlCrate which is why I have a signed edition with green cover instead of black. (black will be posted below) This book was a really cool and quick read. I absolutely adore the green cover after actually reading the book! It is supposed to resemble Tales From The Hinterland. This book had a Grimm Brothers meets a very dark and twisted Alice in Wonderland vibe to it. In this book we follow Alice and Finch on their adventure to find the Hazel Wood, navigate through the land of stories and ultimately save Alice’s mom Ella. Every single character we meet along the way, wether it be normal, story, or ex-story, brings with it a twist, turn, or out right gruesome event. I really enjoyed this book.  I hope there is a companion novel to this….. An actual Tales From The Hinterland. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! The short stories that were included in this book were awesome. Again dark and twisted with no happy endings. I will say that there are a lot of elements to this book that resemble every single fairy tale that has come before it. But hey… In my opinion that’s what stories are for. To be told and retold again and again through the generations.  I would recommend this book to anyone… My husband has actually already picked it up now that I’m done!!! 4.5 out of 5 stars from The Dwarf Did It!!
